It was on this day of 1809, the great freedom fighter, Veer Surendra Sai, was born. Proud to have our University named after this great fighter!

He, not only fought against the British oppression, but also against the caste divide.

Lets spare a minute reading, realizing and respecting the sacrifice of this fighter to save Western Orissa, the then Koshal region, from British rule. This great freedom fighter, also shares his B’day with another Odia freedom fighter, Subash Chandra Bose.

Prof Bijoy Kumar Nanda, VC Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT): Burla

Research and development will be the topmost priority. Though we are doing very well in academics, research remains a big area of concern.
Attempts will be made to carry out relevant research by all the faculty members. Secondly, I will try to improve institute-industry interaction. Understanding the industry need better and close contacts with them would create new avenues for students. It would make the technical education up to date and improve students’ employability.

Besides, I would also focus on strengthening institute-alumni relations. Alumni interactions would be a rich dividend for the students and the institute in the long run.

I am sad, but I have to reveal that we are forced to reschedule the Global Alumni Meet (GAM) to somewhere in February’ 2012. This is b’coz we could not secure a Chief Guest like Mr Naveen Patnaik or Dr Abdul Kalam for the function.

CM is occupied with current Assembly session; we are in continuous touch with his office. We will announce the date once we get confirmation. The function is likely to be held in February. Request you to change your travel plans, if you have made.

Scheduling the event to February 2012 also gives us an opportunity to combine GAM with cultural festival of students which doubles our joy…

Please join with your family and enjoy the spring fest and GAM in Burla.

Odisha Governor and Chancellor of universities Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare on Saturday appointed Vice-Chancellors for two universities, the Ravenshaw University, Cuttack, and Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla.

Professor Dr Bijay Kumar Nanda, currently working in the Department of Mechanical Engineering in NIT, Rourkela was appointed as the VSSUT Vice-Chancellor for a period of three years with effect from his joining or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Countdown has begun for the Grand Get-together at our haunting ground – VSSUT, Burla….

Last evening, a group of 20 alumni, executive body members sat together under chairmanship of Prof CR Tripathy (VC, In-charge) at VSSUT to kick-start the preparation for the Global Meet (24 & 25 Dec Rescheduled to Feb) at Burla. Following decisions were taken.

(1)  Yours faithfully ‘Me’ was entrusted the responsibility of being Chairman – Global Alumni Meet.

(2)  Following Committees were formed in the first lot. (a)  Fund Raising Committee : This Committee will arrange corporate sponshorship, advertisement & alumni contribution. Committee includes –

Mr Ashok Jalan (Team Leader), Mr PK Pradhan, Mr SSS Panda, Mr BB Nayak, Mr Basanta Behera, Mr Prasant Acharya, Mr BB Nayak, Mr Ambika Mohanty, Mr HS Mohanty, Mr Manik Pradhan, Mr SP Nepak, Mr Dinesh Patnaik, Mr Bimal Mishra, Mr Rabi Mohapatra, Mr Amitabh Mishra, Mr Sandeep Mishra, Mr Rashmi Bohidar, Mr Damodar Sahu, Prof PK Pradhan, Prof Amar Nath Nayak, Mr Ashesh Padhy.

(b) Souvenir Committee  : This Committee shall invite, finalize the articles from alumni and publish the souvenir. Committee includes – Prof PK Das (Team Leader), Prof CR Tripathy, Mr NB Chowdhury, Mr Ambika Mohanty, Prof Bibhuti Biswal, Mr Manik Pradhan, Prof Debu Mishra, Prof H Pradhan.

(c) Media, Advertisement & Web Management : This committee will publish the program in newspaper / TV / Website and will manage media coverage. Committee includes – Prof BB Pati (Team Leader), Prof PC Swain, Prof Rakesh Mohanty, Prof Sanjay Agrawal.

(d) Accomodation Committee : This Committee shall book the Guest Houses, Transit Houses, and vacate one wing of South Hostel. They will pick up guests from Railway Station / Bus Stand, etc and will put them into rooms. Committee includes – Prof Ashok Panda (Team Leader), Prof SB Mohapatra, Mr Nilakantha Das, Mr Ashok Jalan, Mr Kabli, Mr Bhatta Bhoi, Mr Saroj Panda, Mr Anant Meher, Prof Sumant, Prof Rakesh Mohanty, Mr B Sethi.

(e) Correspondence Committee : This Committee shall correspond with prospective Chief Guests / Chief Speakers, Collect Messages from dignitaries, etc. Committee includes – Prof Pradeep Pradhan (Team Leader), Prof Rakesh Mohanty, Mr Ashesh Padhy.

NB – We have assumed all the members so chosen have consent for the responsibility. List is not final and we solicit more & more volunteers / suggestions to come forward. Subsequently, few more committees shall be formed such as – Event Management Committee, Reception Committee, Food & Hospitality Committee, Transportation Committee, etc. Please come forward voluntarily.

Program shall be 2 days program….. We are aiming to get Chief Guests like Mr Naveen Patnaik, Mr Abdul Kalam, and Chief Speakers like Mr Sam Pitroda, Mr Neveen Jindal, Mr Kumar Mangalam Birla, etc…. Detailed program shall be sent later; However, the 2 days shall have panel discussion, Q&A session, cultural shows by our students, musical session by some celebrity, short sight-seeing tours, etc. (plz give suggestions, what you would like to see)… Video Conferencing shall be arranged to connect distant alumni with panel discussion… Souvenirs such as e-Galaxy shall be available on sale…. Many distinguished alumni shall be felicitated by Chief Guest….

My appeal to all – -  Please prepare the articles for souvenir where your thoughts will be shared and voices will be heard… –  Please book your calenders… Meeting an old friend, sitting in Auditorium, bathing in Mahandali, dining at Remed, sleeping in the same old hostel rooms, dancing on ground, cricketing with teachers & students, visiting Syphoon / Nehur Minar / PCB Bridge / Zero Point or Ghanteswari will be no less thrilling & funny than any other family tour… –  Please make it Global… Participation of alumni staying abroad can the event more meaningful… –  Please send your nomination (for you or your friends) for felicitation with brief CV & Achievements…. –  Please spread about the event in mail, facebook, orkut… Let the word spread like fire across Globe where our alumni are working…
